Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy for FriendRex (“we,” “us,” or “our”), describes how and why we might access, collect, store, use, and/or share (“process”) your personal information when you use our services (“Services”).

1. Information We Collect

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide when you register, use our Services, or contact us:

• Account Data: Email address, username, display name, password
• Date of Birth: Used for age verification and content filtering (COPPA compliance)
• Profile Data: Bio, avatar image, profile preferences
• Content You Create: Reviews, ratings, rankings, lists, poll responses, chat messages
• AI Interactions: Messages you send to Rex (our AI companion), stored locally on your device
• Payment Data: Processed by Stripe — we do NOT store credit card numbers

2. AI Features & Sub-Processors (Named)

FriendRex routes AI inference based on your subscription tier:

• Free — Google Gemini (gemini-1.5-flash)
• Pro — OpenAI gpt-4o-mini
• Gold — OpenAI gpt-4o (Anthropic Claude as fallback)

Each provider receives your prompt plus the last 20 turns of conversation. None of them retains your data for model training under the contractual terms in our DPAs.

3. Recipients of Personal Data (Sub-Processors)

The full sub-processor list lives at /sub-processors. We update it whenever a new vendor is engaged.

4. CCPA Opt-Out (California Residents)

FriendRex does not sell your personal information. Even so, California law requires us to honor opt-out signals. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal and provide a manual opt-out on our Do Not Sell or Share page.

5. Children & Minors

FriendRex is intended for users 13 years of age or older. We perform a server-side age check and any account whose date-of-birth resolves to <13 is automatically deleted, with an immutable audit row retained as evidence of the block.

6. Video Processing & Watermarks (NEW in v1.2)

When you post a video reel, we transcode it for delivery. When another signed-in user requests to download or save your video, FriendRex generates a branded export by compositing a FriendRex watermark and a short (≤2 second) end-card animation onto a copy of the source. Branded exports are cached for up to 24 hours; download-event logs are retained for up to 90 days for abuse monitoring.

Your controls. You can disable downloads of your videos under Settings → Privacy & Security → “Allow others to save my videos.” This setting is enforced server-side.
