AI Features We Use
FriendRex currently integrates AI across several core features:
Rex AI Chatbot — Powered by Google Gemini, provides personalized entertainment recommendations and answers questions about movies, shows, and content.
Feed Personalization — Learns from your activity to surface relevant content in your timeline.
Content Recommendations — Suggests movies, shows, and other entertainment based on your ratings and viewing history.
Search Enhancement — Improves search results using AI-powered relevance ranking.
Content Moderation — In development. Will help identify violations and unsafe content across the platform.
How Rex Works
Rex, our AI chatbot, is powered by Google Gemini. When you interact with Rex:
Your chat message and relevant profile context (e.g., your ratings, followed creators) are sent to Google servers for processing.
Google's AI generates a response based on your query and FriendRex data.
The response is returned to your device and displayed in the app.
Important: AI responses may contain inaccuracies, outdated information, or bias. Do not treat them as absolute facts or endorsements.

AI Limitations
AI systems are powerful tools, but they have real limitations you should be aware of:
Inaccuracy: AI can produce plausible-sounding but incorrect information, especially on niche topics or recent events.
Bias: AI models learn from training data that may contain societal biases, which can be reflected in recommendations and responses.
Outdated Information: Training data has a cutoff date, so AI may not know about very recent releases or industry changes.
Not Endorsements: Recommendations from Rex are suggestions, not endorsements. Use your own judgment.
Do not rely solely on AI for important decisions. Always verify critical information and make choices based on your own preferences.
Your Rights
You have control over how AI is used with your account:
Opt Out of Rex: Disable the Rex chatbot in Settings → AI Features → Turn Off Rex AI.
Request Data Exclusion: Contact privacy@friendrex.app to request that your data not be used for AI model training.
Switch to Chronological Feed: Disable AI feed personalization and see posts in chronological order.
GDPR Rights (EU): Under Article 22 of GDPR, you have the right to opt out of automated decision-making. Request this at privacy@friendrex.app.
CPRA Rights (California): You have the right to know, delete, and opt out of automated decision-making. Submit requests at privacy@friendrex.app.
Delete AI History: Clear your chat history and interaction data anytime in Settings → Privacy → Clear AI History.
Third-Party AI Processing
FriendRex uses Google Gemini for AI features. Google's terms of service apply to your data when processed by Gemini:
Free Tier: Google may use your chat data to improve their AI models.
Paid Tier: Google does not use your data for model training.
We are actively working to transition FriendRex to Google's paid tier to ensure your data is not used for external training. Check back for updates on this transition.
Age Considerations
Google Gemini requires users to be 18 or older to use the service. For users under 18:
Using Rex is permitted with parental awareness and consent.
Content filtering is automatically applied to responses.
FriendRex believes users deserve to understand how AI shapes their experience. We commit to:
Clearly labeling AI-generated or AI-assisted content.
